County OKs Grants to Arts Groups

More than $81,000 in matching grants to 19 local arts organizations have been approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. The grant recipients, which were recognized for innovative contributions to the cultural health of the area, include dance and music groups, inter-disciplinary and multidisciplinary organizations, theater groups, and media arts organizations.

They are: About Productions ($1,000), Angels Gate Cultural Center ($3,300), Astro Artz ($7,500), Cactus Foundation ($4,500), City Hearts Performing Arts ($6,500), Collage Dance Theatre ($2,500), Company of Angels ($2,600), Dance Resource Center of Greater Los Angeles ($5,000), Filmforum Inc. ($7,500), Independent Composers Assn. ($3,300), Jazz Tap Ensemble ($6,000), Los Angeles Poverty Department ($4,200), Pacific Serenades ($1,500), Pro Musicis Foundation ($2,500), Rudy Perez Performance Ensemble ($2,500), Sarah Elgart and Company ($5,000), Theatre League Alliance ($7,500), Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum ($6,000), Young Saints Scholarship Foundation ($2,500).

Similar grants are awarded each six months through the National/State/County Partnership, a program that supports emerging, experimental and other county arts organizations with limited access to financial sources.
