The Jamaican government said it intercepted 10 tons of weapons believed destined for a Colombian guerrilla group, foiling a plan to use the island as a transshipment point for cocaine and arms. National Security Minister Errol Anderson said eight foreigners were arrested and will be deported. Jamaica suspects the weapons were headed for the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces, a Colombian rebel group. “Jamaica was . . . to be used in the future for transshipping cocaine to Europe and more arms to Colombia,” Anderson said. The shipping documents named the Colombian government as the owner of the arms, but Colombian authorities said the papers were fake.
