More than 1,000 commuters seeking relief from congested highways boarded a new $118-million commuter train for the 67-mile run through the densely populated region between Miami and West Palm Beach, Fla. The commuter line, known as Tri-Rail, was born as an answer to traffic problems expected during almost five years of planned construction to widen Interstate 95 between Boca Raton and Miami. But officials hope it will become popular enough to survive beyond that. The four green and white trains ran on the old CSX Railroad tracks west of I-95, through Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
