A U.S. company has signed a contract to provide hot American airline food to passengers on the Soviet Union’s airline, Aeroflot.

Officials of Aeroflot and Marriott Corp., the world’s largest supplier of in-flight meals, announced Tuesday that they had formed a joint venture to provide food service for Aeroflot, the world’s largest airline.

The contract creates a new company, Aeromar Ltd., which is 51% owned by the Soviet Union and 49% owned by Marriott. The two said they will share profits and both will invest capital, equipment and technical expertise.

J. W. Marriott Jr., chairman and president of the Bethesda-based hotel and restaurant company, said Marriott already caters Aeroflot flights in New York, Washington, Paris, London and Manchester, England.

But the new agreement, covering both international and domestic Aeroflot flights, will be the first contract food service operation in the Soviet Union involving a Western company, he said.
