KUCHING, Malaysia —
Forestry officials have arrested 81 Malaysian tribesmen for setting up roadblocks to stop loggers from removing timber from their homesteads, officials said Tuesday.
The Penan tribesmen of Borneo Island, the region’s last known tribe of nomadic hunters, were arrested in northern Sarawak state. The Penans, usually armed with blowpipes, have been protesting logging activities over the last two years in an effort to save their tropical rain forest homes.
