Marc Girardelli of Luxembourg, with two nearly flawless runs, won his first World Cup giant slalom in 2 years at Adelboden, Switzerland, and widened his lead in the overall standings.

Girardelli, the World Cup overall champion in 1985 and 1986, was fastest in both heats. Norway’s Ole Christian Furuseth finished a surprising second with Italian start Alberto Tomba, the 1988 Olympic giant slalom champion, third.
