United Technologies Corp. said its earnings rose 11% to $659.1 million for the year. The Hartford, Conn., defense contractor and manufacturer of aircraft and marine engines said revenue rose to $18.5 billion from $17.4 billion. The company noted that results included a $98.8-million gain on the sale of certain financial subsidiaries, a $95.1-million gain on the sale of the company’s Essex unit and a gain of $41.4 million on the sale of its share of a German semiconductor joint venture.
