President Reagan’s Farewell Address

Share

I have grown up with Ronald Reagan as the President, and I will miss the inspirational leadership and role model he provided to young people during his tenure. It is a strange thing for many people of college age to think of anyone else but Reagan as President, as many of us are not old enough to really have experienced any other public policy but Reagan’s. Granted, we have felt the aftermath of the likes of Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Carter. The economic hardship, war, and social revolutions that have so shaped the environment in which my generation has been raised occurred during those Adminstrations, and definitely have their place in history. But I really appreciate the security and confidence that has accompanied this decade. President Reagan inspired us to look forward to growing up, taking on responsibility, and raising a new generation.

Last November, I was disappointed at not being able to cast my first vote in a presidential election for Reagan. I feel that I owe him a lot. Despite some of our problems, I would like to thank President Reagan for our country’s current situation. I’m proud to say that I grew up in the 1980s. Take care, sir.
