Iraqi President Pays Visit to Yemen Ally
From Reuters
NICOSIA, Cyprus —
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein left Sana on Sunday after a surprise visit to Yemen, the only country whose regular troops fought alongside Iraq in its eight-year war with non-Arab Iran.
Diplomats said his visit, following the signing of a series of cooperation accords in Baghdad on Saturday, was clearly aimed at showing Iraq’s appreciation for the wartime help.
Hussein has visited only one other country, Egypt, since a cease-fire took effect between Iraq and Iran last August.
