Sarney Pledges Brazil Won’t Build A-Bombs

BRASILIA, Brazil —
President Jose Sarney opened the first meeting of the government’s new nuclear advisory body Tuesday with a pledge that Brazil will not build nuclear weapons.
Reiterating official policy, Sarney said in a speech: “The Brazilian government is already politically committed to using nuclear energy for peaceful ends only.”
This commitment was written into Brazil’s new constitution promulgated last October.
