Local News in Brief : Stanton : Landlord Says Tenants Installed Metal Bars
Contrary to a neighbor’s report, tenants--not the landlord--installed metal bars that rescuers said prevented them from saving Rachelle Jensen from a fire in her Stanton home Jan. 20, Laura Abbasi, wife of landlord Hossein Abbasi, said Wednesday.
“We told them to remove them because they were not safe, but they wanted to keep them up,” she said.
For 7 years, the Jensens had rented an apartment in the four-unit building purchased a year and a half ago by Abbasi, she added.
The Jensens could not be reached for comment.
