A federal judge in Miami rejected a request by Eastern Airlines management to block members of the machinists union from walking off the job in a dispute over mandatory overtime work. The ruling by U.S. District Judge C. Clyde Atkins followed short-lived walkouts by groups of International Assn. of Machinist members. The actions came as management and union officials met to resolve the dispute. Eastern said operations continued normally despite the controversy, which boiled over Tuesday afternoon in a walkout by up to 1,000 machinists at Miami International Airport.
