Garuda Indonesia Airways, the Indonesian national airline, said it would purchase six McDonnell Douglas MD-11 wide-cabin tri-jets at a potential value of more than $600 million. The announcement came just one day after five other airlines ordered up to 76 of the new jets. “The MD-11s will be able to fly non-stop to Europe, providing us with an important upgrading of our route system,” said Garuda President Moehamad Soeparno.
