West Hollywood : Weapons Ban Proposed

Share

The City Council has voted to draft an ordinance banning the sale of the kind of assault rifle used to kill five children in a Stockton schoolyard last month.

By a unanimous vote, the five-member council on Monday directed City Atty. Michael Jenkins to prepare an ordinance that would ban the sale or possession of semi-automatic assault rifles, including the Chinese-made AK-47 used in the Stockton murders.

City Councilman Paul Koretz said West Hollywood has only one gun shop that would be affected, but he said the vote was an “important symbolic step” toward control of deadly weapons. Compton and Los Angeles have approved similar ordinances since the Stockton shootings.
