Iranian-backed Muslim militiamen pulled out of two captured villages in southern Lebanon under terms of a peace accord signed last month that ended their nine-month fight with Syrian-allied forces. The fundamentalist fighters of Hezbollah (Party of God) took refuge in hide-outs in mountains near Israel’s security zone. There was no immediate move by their Shiite rivals, Syrian-backed Amal militiamen, to take over the villages of Jbaa and Ein Bouswar.
