A Miami hospital has stopped telling clergy the religious backgrounds of new admissions after some patients complained they were startled to see priests or rabbis walk into their rooms. “It frightens people when a priest walks in with a rosary,” said Carolyn Lipp, a spokeswoman for Humana Hospital Biscayne. “They think they’re dying and that we’re holding something back.” The policy, instituted three weeks ago, instructs administrators to release patients’ names only if the patient approves beforehand.
