The Los Angeles Times announced that Donald J. Maldonado, vice president of display advertising, has decided to take early retirement, effective March 1. He will continue to work for The Times as a consultant. Maldonado, 61, started with the paper in 1952 as a retail display advertising sales trainee. He became director of display advertising in 1969 and was named a vice president in June, 1988. Frank O’Toole, 61, assistant director of display advertising, will become acting director of the department.
