NATION : Snow and Rain Snarl Midwest, East

Share

Snow and freezing rain clogged highways and disrupted air and ground travel in the Midwest and the East today while heavy rains stretched from Kentucky and Tennessee to Oklahoma and Texas.

More than 7 inches of snow blanketed Des Moines, Iowa, and a 3-inch snowfall grounded dozens of American Airlines’ scheduled flights into and out of Chicago’s busy O’Hare Airport until the storm moved out of the area at midday. American said it canceled between 70 and 75 flights into and out of O’Hare in the morning, about half the normal load. United Airlines, O’Hare’s busiest carrier, also reported delays but had no cancellations.
