Manufacturing Shows 1.9% Gain
Despite a number of headline-making plant closing and layoffs, there was a net gain of 4,700 manufacturing jobs in Orange County last year, according to data released by the California Employment Development Department. The 1.9% increase from December, 1987, was only slightly smaller than the 2.1% overall job increase for 1988, and it matched the 1.9% increase in service jobs. Aerospace employment declined 1.4% to 96,300 jobs.
