Polish-Americans occupying a Roman Catholic church vowed Monday to protest until their demands are met and a new priest, who plans to open the church to other ethnic groups, is removed and the previous priest allowed to return.

The group, which has been occupying the church in shifts of about 20 people, said members would begin a hunger strike by the end of the week if nothing changed at St. Michael the Archangel Church.

The protesters said they want Father Roman Palaszewski restored to his duties and Father John Bambol removed. They objected to Bambol’s plans to open the church to other ethnic groups in the largely Latino neighborhood.
