Local News in Brief : Holden Asks Study on AIDS Hospice
Los Angeles City Councilman Nate Holden has proposed that the city investigate leasing or buying the closed Queen of Angels Medical Center for use as an AIDS hospice and hospital.
Holden introduced a council motion asking for formation of a task force to check the feasibility of turning the Echo Park property into a medical center designed for AIDS patients.
Financial problems forced Queen of Angels to close its doors on Jan. 27 and merge with Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. “Here’s a facility that obviously is available. We ought to try to make some use of it,” Holden said.
The task force proposed by Holden would include city officials as well as members of groups such as AIDS Hospice Los Angeles and AIDS Project Los Angeles.
