Compton : Third Police Substation Opens at West Park

Share

West Park on Alondra Boulevard is the third city park in Compton to get a police substation. Located in an existing park building that was renovated to include space for it, the substation opened this week.

Substations are already operating at Kelley and Lueders parks and two more are on the drawing boards, one for a park to be built in the Sunny Cove housing tract and the other for Gonzalez Park on Rosecrans Avenue.

City officials began building the substations two years ago to reclaim city parks from the gangs that had taken control of them and often named themselves after a particular park.

The substations serve as field headquarters for police and community service representatives. They also serve as a convenience for residents who can file accident reports and complaints at substations without having to go downtown to the main police building in the civic center.
