Women’s Basketball Roundup : Nelson Scores 35 to Lead Trojans

Center Cherie Nelson scored 35 points to lead the USC women’s basketball team over Washington State, 87-67, Friday night in a Pacific 10 game at USC’s North Gym.
Tammy Hammond scored 16 points for the Trojans (10-14 overall and 6-8 in the Pac-10), and Tammy Story had 14 points, six assists and six steals. For the Cougars (12-13, 5-10), Angie Miller had 16 points and nine rebounds.
Washington 64, UCLA 62--Despite career highs of 32 points and 18 rebounds by UCLA’s Sandra VanEmbricqs, the Bruins (11-13, 7-7) lost to the Huskies (19-9, 12-3) in a Pac-10 game at Pauley Pavilion.
