Hometown hero Rob Boyd, cheered by an enthusiastic crowd of friends and neighbors, became the first Canadian man to win a World Cup downhill race in his home country with a victory at Whistler Mountain, Canada.

Boyd, in a race that ended 200 yards from his family home, finished in 2 minutes 10.03 seconds, .17 of a second faster than Daniel Mahrer of Switzerland.

Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland was third in 2:10.34.
