Cost of Making Commercials: The average original television commercial in 1987 cost $145,600 to produce, a benchmark study by an advertising agency trade group says. The study’s backers say the methods developed for compiling its latest report will give the ad industry a recognized standard against which it can measure from year to year what is driving commercial production costs. The American Assn. of Advertising Agencies said its new report was based on a computerized study of production costs for 2,042 commercials submitted by 22 ad agencies.
