The Palestine Liberation Organization has invited Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon to talks on forging a united stand on an international Mideast peace conference, PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat told the official United Arab Emirates news agency. Syrian President Hafez Assad, at odds with Arafat for six years, had told Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard A. Shevardnadze that he would attend the talks, according to Arafat. Syria and Lebanon have not had diplomatic ties with Egypt since they were cut in 1979, when Cairo signed a peace treaty with Israel. Arafat said that no date has been set for the meeting.
