From Times staff and wire service reports

A half-dozen jars of chemicals once used to treat animal hides broke while a worker was disposing of them today, forcing the evacuation of about 30 people from the east end of the County Museum of Natural History, officials said. The spill occurred just before 9 a.m. and was cleaned up by 11:40 a.m. No injuries were reported.

A museum spokesman said a box broke while a worker was moving the chemicals inside a shed where hazardous materials are kept for disposal.
