WORLD : Iran Offers ‘Verses’ Solution: Burn It
Parliament Speaker Hashemi Rafsanjani of Iran said today that the only way to quiet Muslim furor over the novel “The Satanic Verses” is to burn all copies of the book and ban it forever.
“If it stays, it will remain forever a source of rebellion and it would be impossible that peace would come between real Muslims and the supporters of this book,” the official IRNA news agency quoted him as saying. “The only solution that exists . . . is to issue a strict order to seize all copies in the world and burn it,” Rafsanjani said.
Rafsanjani made his latest remarks about the book at the weekly mass prayer sermon at Tehran University.
