Local News in Brief : NAACP Dismisses Election Challenge

Share

The National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People has dismissed a challenge to the election of officers for the organization’s Beverly Hills-Hollywood branch, national NAACP officials said Thursday.

About 25 branch members had charged that candidates allied with branch President Willis Edwards tampered with a voter eligibility list before the Feb. 25 election.

William Penn of the NAACP’s national office dismissed the charges and ruled the election valid at the branch, which was created to combat discrimination in the entertainment industry. Penn was not available Thursday for comment on his decision.

“As far as I’m concerned, I was vindicated,” said Edwards, who was reelected to his post.
