‘Bennett the Drug Czar’
Two interesting stories on the front page--”U.S. Unveils New Nicaragua Policy” and “Bennett Would Limit Rights in Drug War” (March 3)--suggest just how hypocritical we North Americans can be. On the one hand, we’ll stop intimidating the Nicaraguans if they’ll restore civil liberties suspended during their war with the Nicaraguan Contras. On the other, Bennett would suspend those same liberties in the U.S. war on drug trafficking.
I suppose there’s really no contradiction though: we are, US; the Nicaraguans are so obviously them.
