World Cup champion Vreni Schneider closed out a record-setting World Cup season by scoring her 14th victory and winning her seventh straight slalom, at Shiga Kogen, Japan.
The 24-year-old Swiss, who also won six of seven giant slaloms and a combined, broke Ingemar Stenmark’s 11-year record for most victories in a season. She added the season’s slalom title to her overall and giant slalom titles.
Schneider’s total time for two runs was 1 minute 25.67 seconds, more than a second ahead of Monika Maierhofer of Austria (1:26.71).
