Local News in Brief : Electrical Blast Causes Fire, Power Outage
An electrical explosion early Sunday at College of the Canyons sparked a fire and left the campus without power, authorities said.
An electrical vault south of the Valencia college’s campus services building blew up at about 2:30 a.m., propelling a concrete vault cover about 100 feet in the air, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Boudreaux.
The campus services building sustained about $10,000 worth of damage from the resulting fire, Boudreaux said. Electricians were working to restore power to the campus late Sunday.
