Salvador Admits Troops Killed 10 Villagers

SAN SALVADOR —
The military acknowledged Sunday its troops massacred 10 unarmed peasants and said nine soldiers, including two officers, will be handed over to a civilian judge.
The Sept. 21 incident in the central village of San Francisco, originally reported by the military as combat with leftist guerrillas, was raised by Vice President Dan Quayle during a visit in February.
The military statement described the 10 slain peasants as guerrilla collaborators.
