Ultra-Light Yachts En Route to Quick Finish

Twelve of the 13 ultra-light displacement yachts had passed the halfway mark Monday as strong winds continued to push the 37-boat fleet to a quick finish of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club’s race to Cabo San Lucas.

Leading the pack with 329 miles to go were John DeLaura’s Santa Cruz-70 Silver Bullet and Roy Disney’s Nelson-Marek-70 Pyewacket. Tied for third with 332 miles to go were George Folgner’s NM-68 Swiftsure III and Mitchell Rouse’s Rachel-Pugh 68 Taxi Dancer.
