Share

It was anybody’s race for first to finish in Newport Harbor Yacht Club’s Cabo San Lucas race Tuesday as six of the big Class A boats were within 100 miles of the finish at the 8 a.m. rollcall.

There was no chance of an elapsed time record, but most of the Class A yachts were expected to finish by early today.

Closest to the finish, with 94 miles to go, was Mitchell Rouse’s 68-foot Taxi Dancer, but five others were in close pursuit. Roy Disney’s Pyewacket was 96 miles from the finish; Robert McNulty’s Chance was 97 miles out; Silver Bullet and Mongoose had 98 miles to go, and Blondie was 100 miles from the finish.

Winds were abating south of Magdalena Bay, making it anybody’s race for line honors.
