The Pico Rivera City Council has approved spending more than half its $928,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant money on housing programs.

About $475,000 will go toward home repair loans and grants, with another $11,600 to the Fair Housing Council of San Gabriel, which monitors equal housing opportunity in the area.

The council also allocated $100,000 for the city’s $1.3-million Senior Center now under construction, and will contribute $15,000 as Pico Rivera’s share of costs for the Rio Hondo Temporary Home for homeless people.
