BANGKOK, Thailand —
Ho Chi Minh City, formerly the old South Vietnamese capital of Saigon, held its first beauty contest since the 1975 Communist takeover, the state news agency said Wednesday.
Do Thi Khieu Khanh, a 20-year-old hairdresser, outshone 200 other women for the title “Miss Ao Dai 1989,” the Vietnam News Agency said.
Contestants modeled bathing suits, clothes of their own choice and ao dai-- tunics split to the waist.
