China assailed what it called foreign interference in its internal affairs in an apparent response to Western allegations of human rights violations in Tibet. A harshly worded commentary carried by the official New China News Agency also said Chinese dissidents are trying to mobilize foreign opinion over alleged human rights abuses. Beijing has been under pressure from intellectuals at home and political groups abroad over Tibet, where at least 16 people were killed this month in protests against Chinese rule. The U.S. Senate adopted a resolution Thursday on the issue.
