A world fitness congress headed by former NFL football Coach George Allen and featuring more than 90 countries will be held in Chicago in 1990.

Allen, 70, who has been touring the world the last seven years as chairman of former President Ronald Reagan’s Fitness Council, made the announcement in Chicago on Tuesday. Allen, who once coached the Los Angeles Rams and the Washington Redskins, said the idea of a world congress came to him after he had signed an agreement with the Soviet Union “in which their kids took our fitness test and our kids took their fitness test.”

Allen said about 95 countries will be present. Speakers from around the world will talk about such subjects as diet, aging, fitness and medical equipment. “There will be no competition,” Allen said. “It will be exactly opposite of the Olympics. We want to learn from each other and help each other.”
