Vietnam’s Supreme Court sentenced a senior security official to life imprisonment for arranging 260 illegal refugee escapes, official radio reported. “The People’s Supreme Court has found Do Hoang Tru, former deputy director of the security service in Haiphong, and his associates guilty of organizing illegal departures to foreign countries,” said the state-run radio station, monitored in Bangkok, Thailand. The court also handed down jail sentences ranging from two to 10 years to an unspecified number of Tru’s former aides, the radio station said.
