NATION : Jet Takes Off From Wrong Runway
An American Airlines jet took off from the wrong runway in Houston today and struck a metal barricade, but continued to a safe landing at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, federal officials said.
There were no injuries on Flight 508, which arrived on time at Dallas, its intended destination, the airline said. The Federal Aviation Administration said more than 90 people were on board. The MD-80 jet mistakenly took off from a runway undergoing construction at Houston’s Hobby Airport and marked for use by light planes only, said Geraldine Cook, spokeswoman for the FAA’s regional office in Fort Worth.
