Bishop Bans Bingo as ‘Not Good for Society’

CHARLESTON, S.C. —
South Carolina’s Roman Catholic bishop has banned bingo in his diocese because he considers the game an unseemly way of raising money.
“This is an evil in the country,” Bishop Ernest Unterkoefler said Wednesday. “People think they are getting something for nothing . . . and we are aiding and abetting something that is not good for society.
