‘Acceptable Risks’ With Pesticides Used on Fruits and Vegetables

Share

State Health Services Director Kenneth Kizer states, while biting into an apple, “they (apples) are good for you” (Part I, March 15). Kizer must not be a family man. As has been stated, the pesticide levels that are approved, are based on an average adult weight. Children were not taken into consideration when deciding what levels of pesticides are safe. Not only were children’s weights not considered, but the fact that, generally speaking, children consume larger amounts of fruits and vegetables than adults was also not considered.

Until the general public begins to make strong demands, we will continue to hear from people who are equally as ignorant as Kizer, trying to convince us that cancer-causing agents in our food supply are OK for our children to consume.
