Wondrous Windows

Share

The varied displays that over the last few decades have graced the windows of Tiffany & Co.’s jewelry store in New York City are considered the best in the trade, bringing renown in the design world for creator Gene Moore and attracting crowds at all hours.

Now the timeless wit and whimsy of Moore can be seen in the new window displays at Tiffany’s South Coast Plaza store in Costa Mesa, appropriately enough in the mall’s Jewel Court. The theme of the displays unveiled last week by Moore is tools of artists, set in a distinctly minimalist-styled collage of gems and precious metals bathed in subtle lighting.

The hope of Tiffany’s and South Coast Plaza is, of course, that the windows in the Jewel Court will become as popular an attraction as the famed windows at the southeast corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street in New York. Whether anyone will stand in front of them and eat breakfast, as did Audrey Hepburn in the film, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” is another matter.
