Local News in Brief : Countywide : Farm History Display Rising on Fairgrounds

Share

A display illustrating the role that agriculture has played in the history of Orange County is being constructed on the grounds of the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, according to a 5-year plan recently approved by the board of directors of the 32nd District Agricultural Assn.

The project includes a classroom for agriculture education, exhibits and a barn.

Development of the agricultural display, called Centennial Farm in recognition of this year’s celebration of Orange County’s 100th birthday, began last year on the southwest portion of the fairgrounds.

The plan this year calls for the planting of new trees and shrubs and varieties of crops that have been grown over the county’s history. Pens and buildings for small animals and poultry are planned for 1990. Completion of a barn on the site is scheduled for 1992, in time for the 100th anniversary of the Orange County Fair. The barn will contain a petting exhibit, antique farm machinery, horse exhibits and a demonstration area.
