MTV has rejected a video of the song “Straight Outa Compton” by Los Angeles rap group N.W.A, claiming that the clip “glorifies violence,” a network spokeswoman has said. Bryan Turner, president of Priority Records, which distributes the group’s albums, defended the video--a documentary-style look at a police gang sweep. “MTV runs heavy metal videos that promote sexism, but they won’t run this, which is just documenting something that takes place in Compton every day,” he claimed. MTV publicist Carole Robinson noted that a new clip by N.W.A member Eazy-E has been cleared as acceptable to the 24-hour music channel.
