The World : Hanoi to Speed Pullout

Share

Vietnam will withdraw all of its troops from Cambodia by the end of September, ending a 10-year occupation, the official Cambodian news agency said. In a dispatch by the news agency SPK monitored in Bangkok, Thailand, Hanoi invited India, Poland and Canada to form an international body to supervise the withdrawal. It also called on China and other countries to stop all support for guerrillas fighting the Hanoi-backed government of Premier Hun Sen by Sept. 30. Vietnam previously has said it would withdraw its estimated 60,000 to 70,000 troops by 1990 but had offered to speed up the pullout if a political settlement were reached. The dispatch made no mention of that condition.
