Three D Departments Inc. is getting out of stores it doesn’t own.

The Irvine-based retailer, which owns and operates the Three D Bed & Bath chain, has also been leasing space in department stores for several years and currently operates linen and domestics departments in seven Van Leunens stores in Kentucky and Ohio.

But it has agreed to sell Van Leunens the inventory, furniture and fixtures of those departments. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Three D does not anticipate any gain or loss on the sale, the company said. Sales in the seven leased departments amounted to about 6% of Three D’s sales of $34.9 million in fiscal 1988, ended July 30. Net income after tax totaled $719,000 in fiscal 1988.

With the sale, Three D will no longer lease any departments in stores that it does not own, the company said.

Three D Departments Inc. stock is traded on the American Stock Exchange.
