El Salvador’s leftist rebels stepped up their attacks throughout the country, bombing banks in the capital and hitting government offices in the provinces, military sources said. Cristiani, of the Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena) party, leaves today for talks with U.S. officials in Washington.
