World : U.S., Italy OK Joint Crime Fight
WASHINGTON — The United States and Italy signed an agreement today to increase their cooperation against organized crime, drug trafficking and terrorism.
The agreement was signed by U.S. Atty. Gen. Dick Thornburgh and Italian Interior Minister Antonio Gava at the end of a four-day meeting in Washington of law enforcement officials.
The text of the agreement was not made public, but Italian officials told reporters it called for improved exchanges of information between the two countries. Thornburgh said, “Our agreement expresses in unmistakable terms, the strength of our partnership and our determination to battle these evils.”
